The government will spend Rp 10 billion (US $1.09 million) to set up the Indonesian Film Board (BPI) this year to boost the local film industry, a minister says.

"This is our commitment to improve the quality of local films as well as to increase theier quantity," Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Indonesia produced 25 films between January and March, up from 19 films during the same period last year, she said.

Mari said the government would favor certain types of film. "We are going to focus on films for children and Indonesian heroes this year - films that develop Indonesian values and education.” (nfo)
